Shevchenko Signed From Milan To Chelsea

MILAN, Italy -- Now the former striker of AC Milan soccer team, Ukrainian Andriy Shevchenko, officially took up an offer of Roman Abramovich and sealed the four-year contract with Chelsea late Wednesday.

Italy's Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi (C) holds Jordan, the son of A.C. Milan striker Andriy Shevchenko (R) and his wife Kristen Pazik (L), outside the San Vicenzo church in Cernobbio. Shevchenko says he plans to take up an offer from Berlusconi to become his son's godfather.

Though the contract value is still a secret, the sum is the record for Britain’s soccer, amounting to at least £31 million ($58 million).

The transfer to Chelsea is a big and timely move, Shevchenko said during the ceremony of contract’s signing. “I’ve been playing in Milan and will keep playing in another great team. For me, it has been always vital that the club sets high targets.”

According to the starring striker, there are no reasons to prevent them from winning the Champions League and defending the English title.

Asked what was decisive for his transfer, the money or something else, Shevchenko said the money had nothing to do with it.

He changed Italy for England “for family reasons.” Shevchenko emphasized he was under no pressure of his wife but it was their common decision.
